Scenes
Author Janice Hardy showed us how to
analysis our scenes to make sure they’re doing their job.
Characterization
I’m a huge fan of anything that helps me strengthen my characterizations. I’ll be reviewing one such book next week (unless my blog explode during the weekend). In the meantime, here’s a post on how your
characters might react in an extreme situation and one on
defense mechanisms.
Settings
One of my writing goals this year is to
create unforgettable settings. Fortunately, The Bookshelf Muse is a huge help here. Not only did it have a post this week on the subject. It has an amazing setting thesaurus.
Opening pages
Plot to Punctuation showed us how to
establish ours characters in the opening pages.
Lisa Gail Green also had a great post on
making your first chapter kickass. And we all know that agents and editors LOVE kickass beginnings.
Ready for Submission
I noticed that a lot of writers have the goal of querying soon. Before you do, here are
ten tests to prove your manuscript is ready for submission. They’re taken from a workshop I attended at the LA SCBWI conference last summer. Definitely check it out.
Angela Knight wrote an amazing post based a course she taught. Follow her
advice to give your manuscript the best possible chance in querying/submission land.
Especially YA
Author Julie Cross was a guest over at Roni Loren’s blog this week. Check out her great advice on
writing teen angst.
Romance
Does your story have romance in it, and the characters end up in bed (or wherever) together? Author Angela Knight talked about
the function of a love scene.
I hope everyone has a great weekend.

Thanks for the links! Awesome as usual. This week I'd only read two of them. That's pretty good! I love Janice Hardy's posts.

I always love these cool link posts. You save me so much time from having to go searching for posts to teach me more about writing. I just sit back and wait for you to point out great resources.
Thank you for making me lazy, Stina! ;o)
I wish I had a time machine so that I could actually put all of these amazing sources to use!
The ten tests will come in very handy! I'm a huge fan of the bookshelf muse as well. Alot of their stuff started in a crit group I belong to and they had so many contributions they had to move it to a bigger space.
As always, great links! :)
For where I'm at now, these might be the perfect links! Thanks.
I do truly love your friday links. Ingrid's tests are brilliant and so are you!

Hi, I've been reading your links list every Friday for weeks now. They're fantastic.
Oh man there are so many great links here Stina, I keep going, oh I have to read that, I need to do that... Thank you so much.
I am a complete sucker for opening pages. There is an art about crafting something right in the beginning that has the power to pull someone in for the next four hundred pages or so. Than Stina! Have great weekend!
