Page Turners
Speaking of The Hunger Games, Jody Hedlund revealed (using the book as an example) how death (or the threat of) can keep your readers glue to the page.
Cynthia Willis talked about how secrets can create page turners.
A slow pace might result in your readers abandoning your book. Andrea Mack has some suggestions to help you avoid that trap.
Have you seen the TV hit show Downton Abbey yet? Copy Blogger discussed why it’s a big hit and how you can apply this knowledge to your stories.
Editing
Love Save the Cat (and seriously, who doesn’t)? Jami Gold explained how you can use the book for revisions.
Lydia Sharp’s advice will help you edit your characterizations so your characters don’t lose themselves during revisions.
Plotting
The Bookshelf Muse has some suggestions to help your thicken your plot (corn starch not necessary).
Info Dumps
Janice Hardy talked about how to deal with the dreaded info dump.
Subtext
Subtext is vital for a great story. Here’s some advice to help you make the most of it (especially in your settings).
Symbolism
Symbolism is powerful. There’s no denying that. Here’s a great post showing how the TV show CSI used it in one of its episodes. Read and learn.
YA
Are teens reading ebooks? The good news is even if teen haven’t embraced them yet (but that is slowly changing), adults who buy YA novels still shell out more money for them compared to the target audience they were written for. This is great news if you don’t care who’s reading your books, just as long as someone is paying for them. (Here’s a hint for those of you who are self published or are thinking about it. Yes, the freebies are a great way to hook teens into buying your future books).
Promotion
Do you hate Facebook? Here’s why hating it is costing you book sales.

Hey :)
Thanks for the comments and GOOD LUCK with finishing the first draft of your WIP.... I'm close, but you go me beat :)
FUNNY!!! Oooh of to read that PW article, thx!
I meant *off* (sigh)...
Ugh. I need to read that article on Facebook. Maybe it will give me the motivation I need. That PW article was fascinating, by the way. Good luck finishing your draft--I can't wait to read it! As for me, I'm revising the sequel to Sanctum, and hope to have much of that first round done by the end of the weekend! We'll see ...
Yeah on the progress. I'm just hoping to write something this weekend. Off to check out the links. Thanks.
Thanks for the links. I'm saving the one on how to use Facebook.
I love parodies!! That is too funny!
Awesome links as always. :) Good luck finishing your draft soon, Stina!!
I read a lot of these, but not all. Thanks, as always, Stina!
OMG! I love that spoof. I literally LOL'ed several times.
Guess this means before I get to the book stage, I'll have to learn how to like Facebook again. :o(
I haven't seen Downton Abbey yet, but have heard so much about it. It's well-loved, definitely!
Oh wow Stina--that was hilarious! Thanks for posting it! :) And thanks for all these links--I've been crazy busy and have missed many of these gems. :) Have a great weekend!

Congrats on being so close to the finish line--woo-hoo!! And this is a great round-up of blogs. Love it! I haven't read several of them, so I appreciate you sharing them!
Thanks for the great links. Can't wait to read through them.
So great, thanks! I need to start watching Downton Abbey. Soon, hopefully.
Hey Stina...can I ask a little favor? I love tweeting your links but it would be muy easier if you had a twitter button at the bottom of your posts. That way, you'll get a ton of easy tweets!
Goodness! These are fantastic links!!! Thanks so much :)
Not sure if my other comment went through, but never mind..just saw your Twitter button on the right over there. Duh! Another great CLF!
Totally can't wait to see the movie even though I'm sure it won't be nearly as good as the book (what movie ever is?) Loved the trailer! :)
Um, that spoof trailer is HILARIOUS!! Thanks for sharing and cracking me up, and for all of those handy-dandy links. I'm def going to check out that Downton Abbey story analysis link... I've been meaning to watch that show for a while now! Have a great weekend, Stina!
Love that trailer spoof!!! OMG funny! And good articles too. :D
It isn't that I hate Facebook, I just don't have time for it and I enjoy writing and blogging a lot more than Facebooking.
Heheheee, that HUNGER GAMES spoof. ;o) I always used to say I hated FB, and then I joined at my agent's request. It's not so bad, really! and I like connecting there. Never say never. :D
Awesome links! Thanks!
Good luck with finishing your draft this weekend!! Yay for you!!
I do detest facebook but luckily I'm not selling anything so yay!
Take care
x
Good luck with your draft! hope you finish it this weekend. And I'm totally looking forward to watching the Hunger Games.
Ha! Love the vid. Great links!
Epic, epic video. :)
Is it wrong to admit I just watched it again on your blog?
Thanks for some interesting links to explore over the weekend.
Oh, I LOVED it!! So hilarious. The guy sitting down, refusing to fight and getting pulled into it. Classic.
That Hunger Games parody is awesome. I'm only mildly excited for the movie, however. I just have a hard time with movies based on books I like. I'm afraid I'll be disappointed. Hopefully I'll be pleasantly surprised and it will be more wonderful than I can imagine. But we'll see.... :)
Great links; I'll be back later to read quite a few of them. Thanks for sharing.
.......dhole
Yay! I love link posts. Lots of fun stuff to read. And congrats on almost finishing your book!
I'm so glad you mentioned that Story Fix post on subtext. That was a nice follow up to the posting you did on it. The other links I didn't catch - off to check some out.
The HG spoof was killer. My daughter and I laughed so hard I had to wipe spit off my screen.
You've made me open so many tabs beside this one! LOL! Thanks! Can't wait to keep reading. And thanks for making me laugh!! :D
Ha! Looks like a promising movie.
